Archaeolandscapes International endorses the organization of the Training course “Geographic Information Technologies for Archaeology”, 12th edition, co-organized in Spain by two of our member organizations: the Institute of Archaeology - Mérida, and the Institute of Heritage Sciences (Incipit).
The course is aimed at postgraduate and doctorate students in archaeology, to train them in the use of geographic information tools (mainly GIS, but also GNSS, remote sensing, LiDAR, photogrammetry, Spatial Data Infrastructures). Some of these fields are addressed at an introductory level (what are those tools useful for, how do they operate, what are the basic concepts behind their operation), while others include a practical, hands-on approach (mainly those related with the use of GIS, which is conceived as a more general-purpose tool).
It is organized in two consecutive modules, introductory (on-line) and advanced (in Santiago de Compostela, Spain). The course ends with two on-line master classes by renowned scholars: Arianna Traviglia (Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia) and Marcos Llobera.
It is important to note that the course language is Spanish.
